L.A. Medical was founded in 1991 as a manufacturer of surgical instruments. In 1999 the company moved to new facilities, where it still maintains its headquarters in the Albergaria-a-Velha industrial area.
In 2000 it began the certification process by SGS Portugal and in 2002 introduced its complete line of implants for osteosynthesis and started the manufacture of instruments for total hip and knee arthroplasty.
Currently, its largest volume of production is subcontract work for other companies of complete sets for hip and knee arthroplasty instruments, among others. For this, the company is certified by SGS-UK according to EN ISO 13485.
L.A. Medical began its work in 1991, manufacturing general instruments for Orthopedics and Traumatology.
In 1999 moved to modernized facilities equipped with the latest technology in the Albergaria-a-Velha industrial area.
In the year 2000 obtained the certification by SGS-Portugal for the standards NP EN ISO 9001 and NP EN ISO 13485.
In November 2001 obtained the CE marking for the European Community Directive 93/42/EEC through the notified body SGS UK.
In 2002 the company introduced its complete line of implants for osteosynthesis and started the manufacture of instruments for total hip and knee arthroplasty.
In 2006 L.A. Medical began to export its instruments as well as to manufacture hip and knee instruments by means of subcontract work to other countries of the European Union.
With the evolution and modernization of the instruments that L.A. Medical manufactured, it was necessary to acquire an ERP system to compliment its manufacturing process.
In order to provide the customer with complete instruments sets, L.A. Medical introduced its line of general surgical instruments.
With the growth of the L.A. Medical brand, the opportunity arose to initiate intercontinental exports of L.A. Medical’s instruments.
In order to provide the customer with better delivery dates and to meet their needs, L.A. Medical acquired in 2016 two machines of the latest technology.
In July 2018 got the transition for the EN ISO 13485:2016 certification.
In 2019 started the modification and modernization of L.A. Medical website, making it more appealing and interactive.
The L.A. Medical main mission is the providing of the instruments with the highest quality and accuracy, according to the client’s indications, and help them to provide a better quality of life for the patients.
